sounds like a very clever idea, however with the constant and rapid technology evolution, how soon will it be before this technology will become obsolete.
ReplyDeleteA mix of people AND technology needs to be a strong focus for retail. One of the only companies i've experience with this is apple. the people are always engaging, and their technological processes are always utilised to their fullest, from feedback systems, to purchasing, to ordering stock.
Interesting concept though.
Yeh, I still think there is no substitute for people in the retail environment. Even the self-checkout technology in supermarkets, which is simple compared to the connected store never works. Consumers want that personal interaction and are more likely to be empathetic towards a person's mistake rather than a machine which makes a mistake. Especially as not all consumers are digital natives, it could isolate these customers. I think that a pure and expansive digital signage strategy at this stage could be a very expensive and risky one, however used in moderation could add value to the retail experience.
